Kathy Vickers Doll Collection
The art of doll making has been a tradition in Alaska for centuries. The Native people of Alaska still continue to create beautiful and highly collectable dolls today. Kathy Vickers, a well known Alaskan craftsman, continues this traditional art. Kathy's grandchildren, Rena Wasillia (age 13) and Rion Vickers (age 10), are learning about their rich Aleut culture as they help with creation of every doll.
Kathy's collection of 12 dolls each depict a traditional Alaska Native activity such as fan dancing, drumming, fishing, and berry picking. Native Alaskan culture was built on a subsistence lifestyle which includes a rich heritage of arts. Every doll is an unique piece of art which uses traditional Alaskan furs like beaver, rabbit, and fox.
